Game Project Contribution

June9

In this project, we both worked together to brainstorm ideas for our project and in the end decided to settle with Rachel’s suggestion on the traditional bull race theme. From there, both of us also determined what type of game it will be and researched how to create such games on the Construct 2 Engine. Unfortunately, the software is incompatible to the Mac OS operating system and due to the current quarantine situation, we are no longer able to sit together and share the display to work on the project like usual. Hence this is the part where we decided to divide our tasks. While Rachel focused more on the overall implementation and functionality of the game, I centralized more on creating the overall design of the project. Of course, both of us still communicate with each other to discuss via discord and video call or through zoom (share screen).

To try and keep the project as original as possible, we have decided to create almost everything from scratch. I designed the sprites (the players, bell, boosters, obstacle), boosters, buttons, labels, pop up windows (shop menu, inventory menu, game over), backdrop (ground), text pages (about page, help page). And although we divided tasks, we both collaborated on each other’s tasks. This includes Rachel’s contribution to the animation of the cow, her creation of the sky background as well as her opinions regarding certain design aspects.

Aside from the above stated, I also looked up the appropriate sound effects for our game and convert them to accessible file formats. I also contributed by being the one creating the guidelines. Although Rachel is the one fiddling with the Construct 2 engine, I have given my best attempt in aiding the Construct 2 implementation by searching on how to produce a platform game, how to implement certain behaviors and functionalities, as well as look for possible solutions on how to combat certain obstacles we faced during the process and enhance the overall project. I also gave my inputs on certain conditions.

General Proposal

March17

For my Multimedia & HCI project in semester 2, we are to work in pairs and create a game using a software called Construct 2. The game that My partner and I will make is inspired by a traditional race known as “Karapan Sapi”.

Type of Game: Platformer

Genre: Action

Art Style: 8-bit art

About:

In this game, the main character plays the role of the racer who is controlling the cow throughout the race. The player will be able to use boosters to speed up / slow down other players. The main objective of the game is to be the first one to reach the finish line just like any other racing game.

Attributes/ Statistics to be included are:

  • Cow’s strength & speed
  • Boosters for the Cow
  • Character’s stamina

Reward system:

  • Coins/ currency to be stored in the inventory system or exchanged to upgrade the player’s skillset as well as to buy boosters to equip the player’s for the upcoming races to come.

How does our game relate to Indonesia?

Indonesia is known for its culinary, tourism and many more. One of which includes the abundance of annual traditional festivals. Karapan Sapi is certainly one of them. Originating from the island of Madura, bull racing festival is known to be quite prestigious amongst the people and takes place from about July through October place happens several times throughout the season.
